DEMANDA PÚBLICA, 2020
[ENG] Demanda Pública is a project that the artist developed during the social uprising that started in Chile in 2019. Motivated by the desire to know the reasons that were driving people to raise their voices on the streets Maria P. Vila decided to set the project up in the middle of where the demonstrations were taking place, in order to collect citizens’ demands in situ.
The project comprises the protester’s handwritten demands. The product resulting from collecting these demands was handed over at Palacio de la Moneda, seat of the President of Chile, as a way to channel the public discussion into the space where power resides.
With the support of the Goethe-Institut of Santiago, we were able to make available the three volumes of Demanda Pública— which collected more than 1,800 written demands—in a digital, free version.
[ESP]Demanda Pública es una obra de la artista chilena María Luisa Portuondo Vila en la que recolectó, entre los meses de octubre de 2019 y febrero de 2020, demandas ciudadanas a través de una instalación ubicada en diversos espacios de protesta en Santiago de Chile. Esta instalación surge del proceso histórico iniciado en Chile el pasado 18 de octubre de 2019, denominado por la prensa como ‘Estallido Social’ Con el apoyo del Goethe-Institut de Santiago, logramos poner a disposición los tres volúmenes de Demanda Pública —que recopiló más de 1.800 demandas escritas— en versión digital y gratuita.
HARD COPIES ARE NON PROFIT AND INCLUDE DONATION
Every copy of Public Demand is composed of three hand-bound volumes and its price is USD 250 (shipping cost not included). That Price includes a copy for your Institution and another copy that would be donated to a low-income Chilean Organization. It is really important for us to emphasize that this is a not for-profit edition, given that the dollar amount only covers the cost of printing and manufacturing. The production time of these volumes would be 20 business days from the time the purchase is confirmed.
